Lauretta Stucy, of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2019 at Valley Home in Thief River Falls, at the age of 85.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Goodridge, MN. Burial will follow at the Czech National Cemetery, rural Goodridge, MN.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
Lauretta Mary Cullen was born on December 10, 1934 at Mercy Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Thomas William and Leola Margaret (Portwine) Cullen. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Ann Catholic Church in Goodridge, MN. Lauretta attended District 98 School in Marshall County and graduated from Goodridge High School in 1952.
On January 31, 1953, Lauretta was united in marriage to Edward Lloyd Stucy at St. Bernard’s Rectory in Thief River Falls, MN. They made their home on the Stucy family farm in Hickory Township of Pennington County, MN where they had dairy cattle and raised small grains. To this union two children were born, Norma and Ronald.
Lauretta worked alongside of her husband, Edward on the family farm and together they enjoyed their farm life. Lauretta enjoyed sewing, yard work, and flowers. Together, Lauretta and Edward enjoyed weekend getaways and sightseeing and visiting relatives in Arizona and Kodiak Island in Alaska.
She was a life-long member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Goodridge, MN and also a member of the Deer Park Garden Club and Star Homemakers. Lauretta was very active in her church where she held positions on the Parish Council and Ladies Aid. She also taught Release Time at Tuesday School. She and Edward were also active with the National Farmers Organization and were awarded Pennington County Farmers of the Year. Lauretta was awarded the Red River Valley Homemaker Award from Pennington County.
Survivors include her children, Norma Joan (Gary) Johnson of Thief River Falls, MN and Ronald Edward Stucy of Goodridge, MN; grandchildren, Jeremy (Jennifer) Johnson, Joanna (Jay) Asp, Kylie (Mark) Haugen; great-grandchildren, Chelsey Johnson, Brayden Johnson, Josie Johnson, Eli Haugen, Ethan Haugen, and Evan Haugen; siblings, John (Louise) Cullen, Agnes Kuznia, Douglas (Virginia) Cullen, Joseph Cullen and Margaret Syverson; sister-in-law, Louise Cullen; and many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward; grandson, Chad Johnson; parents, Tom and Leola; grandparents, James and Margaret Cullen & James and Della Portwine; brothers, Robert Cullen during the Korean War and Tommy (Marilyn) Cullen; sisters-in-law, JoAnn “Jan” Cullen and Arvilla (Bill) Ondick; sister-in-law, Mildret Hovet; brothers-in-law, Leonard Merit, Henry Hovet, Ray Kuznia, and Warren Syverson; and nephews, Greg Syverson and Patrick Kuznia.
