The Pennington County Humane Society is sponsoring a “Clear the Shelter Holiday Event” on Saturday, December 14th from 12-6pm.  The shelter has a record number of cats that are in desperate need of good homes; their goal is to have all their furry friends in homes for the holidays.  Cat adoption fees will be waived, and fees reduced on long-term resident dogs.  For more information call 218-681-8045 or go to

The 2019 Christmas Cantata, presented by the Greater Middle River Community Choir, will have one performance this weekend.  On Sunday, December 15th they will be at United Lutheran in Gatzke at 10am.

Bring your kids to Santa Day at the annual Kid’s Christmas Party with Santa this Sunday, December 15th, from 1pm-3pm at the VFW Club in Thief River Falls.  Kids of all ages are invited to visit with Santa and have their picture taken.  There will be goodie bags and music for the season too!

Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge staff, along with students from Marshall County Central High School, will be participating in Audubon’s 120th year of the Christmas Bird Count.  The count covers a 15-mile diameter circle that includes the cities of Newfolden and Viking, and areas in-between.  The count date is set for Wednesday, December 18th.  Completion of the count can be tailored to your interests, with as much or as little of the survey being done from a vehicle or on foot.  For more information, or to sign up, please call Lynda at 218-449-4115 or email

St. John Lutheran School presents their Christmas program, “Straight Outta Bethlehem”, on Thursday, December 19th at 6pm at the school.  Refreshments will be served following the program.

The Elevate NextGen Youth Center in Thief River Falls is open daily after school from 3pm-6pm.  It is open to all students in grades 6-12, providing a safe environment, tutoring and other programs.  Games, internet access and helpful adults will be there for all students; located at 411 North Horace Avenue in Thief River Falls.
