Alex Wald, 92, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday December 27, 2019 at St Bernard’s Catholic Church Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert officiating. Burial will follow at St Bernard’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, December 27, 2019 at St Bernard’s Catholic Church, Thief River Falls, MN.
Alexander Wald was born on May 3, 1927 in East Grand Forks, MN, the son of Michael and Ann Mary (Boehm) Wald. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. In 1940 Alex graduated from Polk County High School in Crookston, MN.
In 1951 Alex enlisted with the United States Army and served in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1953.
Following his discharge Alex went into farming with his brothers. In the mid 60’s he purchased farmland near Plummer, MN, where he raised beef cattle and grain.
On January 12, 1979 Alex was united in marriage to Edna Collins in Brooks, MN. Together they made their home on the farm for several years until moving to Thief River Falls.
In his retirement Alex enjoyed spending time with neighbors over coffee. He took pride in keeping his vehicle spotless and would buy Armor All by the gallon. Alex loved spending time with his grandchildren – snowmobiling and 4-wheeling.
He is survived by his children, Marty (Sally) Collins of Thief River Falls, Trent (Brenda) Collins of Thief River Falls, Rhonda (Lance) Stoddard of Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Travis (Tera) Collins of Moorhead, Chelsey (Turner) Sawatzke of Thief River Falls, Zack Collins of Boulder, CO, Jake Collins of Thief River Falls, Sally Lyn Stoddard of Moorhead, Kelsey Stoddard of Moorhead and Carly Stoddard of Moorhead; two step-grandchildren, Jenna (Tyler) Holen of Thief River Falls and Nick Dokkin of Golden, CO; five great-grandchildren, Masson and Myles Collins, Alexis Jaxon and Hazel Sawatzke; and step-great-grandchild, Sullivan Holen; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; his parents; and all of his siblings.
