(Tampa, FL) — Tyler Johnson had 12 catches for 204 yards and two touchdowns, including a 73-yard go-ahead TD in the fourth quarter, to push Minnesota to a 31-24 win over Auburn at the Outback Bowl in Tampa. (Milwaukee, WI) — The Timberwolves took the NBA-leading Bucks down to the wire but fell short in a 106-104 loss to the Bucks in Milwaukee. Shabazz Napier netted 22 points to pace Minnesota, which dropped to 12-and-20. The Wolves host the Warriors tonight.

(New York, NY) — The former commissioner of the NBA is dead at the age of 77. David Stern passed away New Year’s Day, just weeks after suffering a brain hemorrhage. At the time he was rushed into emergency surgery, but he never recovered. Stern headed the NBA for three decades.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Wild are enjoying some extra time off. They will resume their four-game homestand on Saturday when the Winnipeg Jets come to town. Minnesota has lost the first two on the stand after Tuesday’s 4- setback to Toronto.

(Eagan, MN) — The Vikings will square off with the Saints on Sunday in New Orleans in the NFC Wild Card round of the playoffs. The Vikes would visit San Francisco in the Divisional Round with a win. The other wild card game features Seattle at Philadelphia. San Francisco and Green Bay have first-round byes.
