Following high school Theresa moved to Minneapolis where she worked at a factory making folding doors before returning home to Strandquist. Upon returning home she worked at Wikstrom Telephone Company and babysat for a family in Strandquist.On February 16, 1963 Theresa was united in marriage to Ernest Melvie Jr. in Minneapolis, MN. Together Ernie and Theresa made their home in Viking, MN, and raised their children Kristi, Kevin, and Kraig.Theresa worked many jobs over the years – picking potatoes by hand for a couple of years, then on machines for 3-4 years, as well as helping her husband in his business driving truck. Theresa loved to mow lawns, including the Viking Cemetery.Her passions in life were playing piano, accordion, fishing, camping, and playing cards. Theresa was always there for family in times of need. She enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren, and friends.
Theresa is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ernie of Viking, MN; daughter, Kristi Nelson (special friend Micah Hamm) of Viking, MN; sons, Kevin Melvie of Viking, MN, and Kraig (Dayna) Melvie of Viking, MN; grandchildren, Jacoby Nelson of Williston, ND, Jesse Nelson of Williston, ND, and Shandy Nelson of Viking, MN, Alexis Melvie (special friend Garret Tadych) of Rogers, MN, Kasey Melvie of Viking, MN, and Kinzie Melvie of Viking, MN; great-granddaughter, RayeLee of Viking, MN; one sister, Adeline Hugg of Thief River Falls, MN; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Leona Chwialkowski; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ernest and Alma Melvie; grandson, Jerad Nelson; and son-in-law, Randy Nelson.
