A pair of Democratic Minnesota lawmakers is proposing a bill that promotes pet adoptions.  State senator Karla Bigham from Cottage Grove and state representative Carlie Kotyza from Eden Prairie want to ban pet stores from selling dogs and cats that they receive from commercial breeders.  If the measure passes, any pet shop that is a violator will be fined one-thousand dollars.  Maryland, California, Maine and over 340 local jurisdictions have passed similar humane pet store laws including Roseville, Eden Prairie and St. Paul.

  1. Hope this law passes. Too many dogs and cats are put down in shelters, so we don’t need all these breeders selling to pet stores.
