March 18th at 12:52 pm, Thief River Falls Police responded to Oil Boyz Express Lube for a report of a stolen vehicle. The caller reported that her boyfriend’s 1999 Pontiac Sunfire had been taken and was last seen heading south on Highway 59. Later that same afternoon, a Thief River Falls Police officer located the vehicle near Oakwood Court. During investigation, information was received that a man in an orange coat was seen looking in windows in the Border State Bank parking lot. This same individual later climbed over a snow drift into the Oil Boyz parking lot and stole the complainant’s vehicle.
Surveillance video later viewed by other officers revealed the subject in the orange coat was Travis Bruce Johnson. Around 6 pm that same night, officers received information that Travis Johnson was seen on the 3rd Street Bridge. Officers arrived to find Johnson still in the clothes he had been wearing when seen on video surveillance. Johnson was arrested and taken to the Pennington County jail. DUring the booking process, Johnson was found to have a pipe on his person which later tested positive for methamphetamine. Travis Bruce Johnson, age 21, of Thief River Falls was charged with Felony Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Gross Misdemeanor 5th Degree Drug possession and is currently in custody at the Pennington County Jail.
