Gov. Tim Walz has signed an Executive Order authorizing the Department of Public Safety to request fire, police and health assistance from other cities throughout Minnesota, as well as peace officer assistance from neighboring states.
This means DPS can coordinate help from other jurisdictions and ensure that help is effectively deployed. The cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul have already received offers from cities in Minnesota.
The first responders will lend support to the civil unrest response taking place in the Twin Cities following the death of George Floyd. Read the executive order: https://mn.gov/governor/assets/EO%2020-67%20Final_tcm1055-434213.pdf
