Thief River Falls City Council Passes Resolution for Temporary Outdoor Dining


Gov. Tim Walz had signed an executive order giving bars and restaurants to operate temporary outdoor areas starting June 1st.

Applications for Thief River Falls bars and restaurants will be available at The business is required to provide, a plan of the outdoor area, have a COVID-19 plan, their hours, how much seating all in their application.

The businesses are not allowed to have enclosed structures, but they do need to have barriers up, and they can use some of their parking lots. Also, the businesses liability insurance must cover the alcohol sales to the outdoor area.

For their applications to be approved bars and restaurants have to agree to comply with the Gov.’s orders, which includes the COVID-19 plan, making sure people are 6 feet between tables and a maximum capacity of 50 people, limiting table service and not allowing walk in customers.

The city council will meet again this Tuesday with most of the council members joining by Webex.
