The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) voted Thursday to deny reconsideration of their previous approvals of the certificate of need and the route permit for the Enbridge Line 3 replacement project. Representative Dan Fabian, GOP Lead on the House Environment and Natural Resources Finance Division, issued the following statement regarding the vote.
“Today’s vote by the PUC to move forward needs to be one of the last regulatory decisions by an agency for Line 3. After more than five years of review, it is clearly time for construction to start and this project to be completed. I expect other groups will challenge the PUC’s action today, but it is up to Governor Walz to make sure the State of Minnesota no longer challenges Line 3 or does anything to delay this project.
“I agree with Commissioner Tuma that the permit for Line 3 ‘will be viewed as the gold standard for infrastructure replacement’ and the jobs it will create will help us get thousands of people back to work, bringing dollars and hope to communities across Northern Minnesota.”
