Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 24, 2020 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN, with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Interment will follow at St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery in Drayton, ND.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church on Friday.
Karen Mae Brosseau was born July 16, 1957 to Lynn and Mary Lou (Gerou) Brosseau in Crookston, MN. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls and graduated with the Prowler class of 1975.
After high school Karen attended the AVTI in Thief River Falls, completing the accounting program. On July 4th, 1979 she was married to Douglas Hill. To this union three sons, her pride and joy, were born – Christopher, Nicholas, and Brian.
Karen lived in Lakeville, MN, Granby, CO, and then Marysville, WA for many years. Food service and catering became her passion.
Karen later moved back to her roots in Thief River Falls. On November 11, 2011 at 11:00 AM Karen was united in marriage to James “Bones” Lavelle. Together they made their home in her grandmother Ama’s former house.
While growing up Karen was a horse lover – spending many hours tending to her horse, Scottie. Karen enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes, and hosting family gatherings. She especially enjoyed get-togethers at the gazebo near the river, with family and friends.
Karen is survived by her loving husband, James “Bones” Lavelle of Thief River Falls, MN; her mother, Mary Lou Brosseau of Thief River Falls, MN; her sons, Chris Hill, Nick (Tabatha) Hill, and Brian (Bew) Hill all of Hawaii; five grandchildren, Drake, Aaliyah, Sirichai, Damien, Penny, and Darius expected in August; brothers and sister, Tim (Patti) Brosseau of Bottineau, ND, Tony Brosseau of Pine Wood, MN, Tom (Kim) Brosseau of Thief River Falls, MN, Greg Brosseau of Thief River Falls, MN, Kristie (David) Lansing of Warren, MN; and many aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lynn Brosseau; sister-in-law, Ann Brosseau; nephew, Steve Olson Brosseau; grandparents, Joseph and Alma Brosseau and Phillip and Lucille Gerou.
