After a number of cities passed ordinances changing the legal age to purchase tobacco to 21, the state of Minnesota officially joins them tomorrow. (8-1-2020) According to the Legislature, the statewide approach is meant to address confusion for retailers and law enforcement. The law also eliminates the petty misdemeanor for an underage person who is in possession of tobacco or purchases it with a fake ID. Those caught with tobacco products underage will also face alternative civil penalties, instead of a monetary fine.

  1. It’s about time y’all clarify things, even if it is as petty as tobacco use. Although, are you going to charge a soldier if they’re smoking or chewing? They’re serving the country, they should be able to smoke/chew on their bases / or ship.
