The Minnesota State Patrol responded to a personal-injury motor vehicle accident just after midnight early Saturday morning. According to the report, the accident occurred at 12:42 at the intersection of 180th Street Northwest and 120th Ave Nw-approximately 5 miles west of Thief River Falls. A 2002 Ford Taurus-driven by Joseph Lawson Hickey-age 34 of Thief River Falls, was southbound on 120th Ave NW.
A 2008 Buick Lucerne, driven by Devon Michael Westerlund-age 22 of Thief River Falls, was westbound on 180th St NW when it failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the Ford Taurus. It was noted in the report that Westerlund had been using alcohol. Both vehicles continued into the southwest ditch and rolled. Devon Westerlund sustained no injuries while Joseph Hickey was transported to Sanford Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. The State Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, the Thief River Falls Police Department, Thief River Falls Fire Department and F/M Ambulance. Both parties were wearing seat belts.
