In response to news of a blue-green algae bloom on Lake Sarah, Red Lake Watershed District staff tested water from nearby lakes in the Red Lake Watershed District for the presence of algal toxins. Maple Lake, Badger Lake, and Hill River Lake all had 0 parts per billion of algal toxins. Cameron Lake appeared to have less than 1 parts per billion. Unfortunately, Oak Lake by Erskine, had visual evidence of a blue-green algae bloom. The sample had at least 5 parts per billion. The concentration of toxins could be higher where it has been accumulating along the shoreline and, for this reason, please keep pets and children out of the water at Oak Lake.
