Gloria Jean Bjorkman was born April 7, 1941 in Warren, MN daughter of Leonard and Helen (Paschke) Bushaw. She attended school in Oslo through the 5th grade. The family moved to Thief River Falls and Gloria attended school, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1959. Gloria then attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI graduating in 1963 with degrees in psychology and sociology.
On April 12, 1963 Gloria was united in marriage to David Bjorkman in Thief River Falls, MN. The couple made their home there where they raised their son Karl. Gloria furthered her education receiving a master’s degree and specialist degree in psychology from Moorhead State University. She worked for Catholic Social Services as a social worker, for Pennington County Social Services as a case manager and probation officer, Northwest Inter-District Council and School District #564 as School Psychologist and Director of Special Education until her retirement in 1997.
Gloria spent many hours volunteering; she was a founding member of Discovery Place, a director for the Falls Delivered Meals program, and board member of the hospital auxiliary. She was a member of the board of directors for the TRF Education Foundation, a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, volunteered 2 winters at the Lyndon B. Johnson National Park and sang with the Valley Voices in Texas.
Gloria and David spent the last 22 winters in Texas, summers in Thief River Falls and weekends at Buffalo Bay on Lake of the Woods camping and fishing with friends. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, Scandinavia, Asia, Caribbean and Alaska.
Gloria is survived by her husband David of Thief River Falls, MN, son Karl (Tracy) Bjorkman of Thief River Falls, MN and granddaughter Lainey of Thief River Falls, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Helen Bushaw, brothers Ronald Bushaw, Dennis Bushaw and infant sister Sharon.
