Thief River Falls – Bruce Hall, 88, died Monday, October 12, 2020 at St. Benedict Community Center, St. Cloud, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Please wear your mask and practice social distancing.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 6:00 PM prayer service on Monday, October 19, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN.
Bruce Orrin Hall was born on January 10, 1932 in Grey Eagle, MN the son of Orrin and Louise (Woodman) Hall. He was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith and attended schools in Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School. He was captain of his high school hockey team and played semi-pro hockey as a defenseman for the Thief River Falls Thieves.
On December 29, 1948, Bruce was united in marriage to Helen Sandum at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls. Together they made their home in Thief River Falls and owned and operated Halls Floral. Helen passed away on November 10, 2010 in Melrose, MN after a long bout with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Bruce and Helen enjoyed dancing and civic organizations. Bruce was a past exalted ruler of the Elks Club and past president of the Thief River Falls Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a talented wood carver and sign painter. He collected coins and postage stamps throughout his life. He enjoyed playing pool, fishing, and hunting. He loved getting away with family to fish and hunt and etc at their lake home on Island Lake near Lengby, MN. Family was the most important part of Bruce’s life. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, brother and neighbor as well. His faith was strong throughout his life. He was very active in Cursillo and frequently read scripture at mass at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.
Following their retirement, they moved to Burtrum, MN. While living in Burtrum they were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grey Eagle, MN. On September 22, 2012, Bruce was United in marriage to Audrey (Joyce) Sundquist at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle, MN.
Survivors include wife Audrey (Joyce) Hall, his five surviving children: Deb (Rick) Kelim of Georgetown, TX, Tom (Vivian) Hall of Crookston, MN, Steven (special friend Dana Jenkins) Hall of Thief River Falls, Greg (Missy) Hall of Thief River Falls, and Jon (Peggy) Hall of Hutchinson; son-in-law Garret Reierson of Thief River Falls, MN; stepdaughter Shirley (Sundquist) (Mark) Hellem of St. Paul, MN; 12 grandchildren; Stacey (Dave) Honeyman of Arvada, CO, Matt (April) Kelim, Hutto, TX, Aaron (special friend Carrie Morlan) Hall, Hastings, MN, Micah Hall, Crookston, MN, Jennifer (Hall) Bramsen, Grantsburg, WI, Tammy (Hall) (Bob) Ballard, Thief River Falls, MN, Lisa (Reierson) (Jonathan) Hams, Thief River Falls, MN, Jarod (Natasha) Reierson, Thief River Falls, MN, Jakob and Hudson Hall, Thief River Falls, MN, Ashley (Hall) (Anthony) Wilder, and Alex Hall of Hutchinson,MN; step grandson Anders Hellem of St. Paul, MN; 18 great grandchildren: Dominick, Derek, Helen, James, Preston, Audrey, Makenna, Lucas, Cole, Cody, Rebecca, Amellia, Logan, Jaxon, Knute, Rylie, Mariah and Marley; five great great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Jan Hall of Grey Eagle, MN. niece, Jill (Hall) (Cliff) Tabke of Boston, MA; nephews, Jim (Nicole) Hall of Minneapolis, MN; and Jason (Michelle) Hall of Shawnee, Kansas; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Helen (Sandum) Hall, daughter Mary (Hall) Reierson, son, Robert Hall; parents, Orrin and Louise (Woodman) Hall; and mother and father- in- law, Herman and Edith (Patten) Sandum.
