Lois Bengtson, 85 of Newfolden, MN passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at RiverView Health in Crookston, MN.
The service to celebrate Lois’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 18, 2020 with visitation one hour prior at Westaker Free Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN with Pastor Kevin Hall officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden, MN.
Lois Jean Dooley was born August 9, 1935 in Triplett, Missouri the daughter of Curtis and Frankie Caroline (Clark) Dooley. Lois attended school in Keytesville, Missouri graduating with the class of 1953. After high school, she moved to Kansas City for work.
When Lois’ brother Melvard was in the United States Air Force, he introduced her to his fellow airman, Vernon Bengtson. The two of them hit it off and were married on June 24, 1956 at Lin-Wayne Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO. They lived for a time in Kansas City before making their home in Newfolden, MN. To this union, four children were born: Vrenda, Gregory, Darren and Carla.
Lois worked for a number of years at Newfolden Co-op Elevator as a bookkeeper. She also did some babysitting before going to work at Ben Franklin in Thief River Falls and retired at age 72 after working at Digi-Key for 15 years.
Lois enjoyed working in her garden, canning, reading, writing letters, keeping a family journal and scrapbooking. She also loved getting together with her coffee friends. She was an active member of Westaker Free Lutheran Church, involved with Ladies Aid and was a Sunday School teacher. She and Vernon also enjoyed taking care children in the nursery during Sunday School in the later years.
Lois was known by her friends and family to have a strong personality, was witty with a great sense of humor, was a hard worker and was fiercely loyal to her family.
Survivors include Vernon, her husband of 64 years, Vrenda (Arlen) Holm, Perley, MN, Greg (Cindy) Bengtson, Newfolden and Carla (Brent) Boen, Strandquist, MN; grandchildren: Ethan Holm, Brianna (Jacob) Laird, Becky and Brody Bengtson, Christian and Gracie Boen; sister: Georgia Dooley and sisters-in-law: Marge Dooley both of Salisbury, MO and Darlene Chapman; and brother-in-law: Lloyd Bengtson both of Newfolden; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by son Darren on October 18, 1991, her parents, sisters Wilma Hitzeman and Kathryn Dooley, brother Melvard Dooley and nephew Randy Bengtson. Also preceding her were sisters-in-law Sandra, Leanna and Marge Bengtson, brothers-in-law Fred Hitzeman, Leonard and Arnold Bengtson, Norman Ueland and Ray Chapman.
