Public Notice – At 8:00 AM on Monday November 23rd the City of Thief River Falls will be removing the stop signs on Barzen Avenue at First Street.
The transportation segment of the environmental review conducted for the Digi-Key expansion called for various traffic enhancements. One mitigation item was to install traffic control at the intersection of Highway 1 West and Barzen Avenue, which was completed by MnDOT with the construction of a roundabout this summer. Another item was to remove the stop signs on Barzen Avenue at First Street, making Barzen Avenue a through street to better handle the high traffic volumes generated by Arctic Cat and Digi-Key. (See Below)
Message boards were installed today along First Street on the east and west sides of Barzen Avenue to inform motorists of the coming change. These will be left up for a couple weeks. We have also installed advance warning signs on First Street to notify motorists that Barzen Avenue cross traffic does not stop.
